WXO Wrestling #3 (January 30, 2000)

Well, this is it; the final episode of WXO Wrestling ever produced. The show up to this point has been largely mediocre wrestling matches not really worth writing home about but I figure with but a single episode remaining why the heck not just finish the series off? So here it is, the January 30, 2000 episode of WXO!

WXO Wrestling #2 (January 23, 2000)

I figured I’d go ahead and review the rest of the WXO Wrestling episodes since there are a grand total of two more episodes including the one I’m writing about at this very moment. The first episode was not the worst wrestling show I’ve ever seen in my life but wasn’t particularly great either. Basically it came across like an episode of WCW Worldwide with a couple of angles tacked on to it instead of it being entirely wrestling for wrestling’s sake. Let’s find out if that trend continues or if the WXO turns into something amazing in week two.

WXO Wrestling #1 (January 16, 2000)

Back around the turn of the century when wrestling was perhaps the hottest it had ever been (and ever would be) a bajillion and a half wrestling promotions were founded trying to cash in on that popularity. WXO was one of them. Allegedly presenting a more “family friendly” wrestling product for folks who were sick of bloody hardcore brawls and people telling each other to “suck it,” WXO managed to put out three syndicated episodes of TV wrestling in January 2000 before closing up shop. Thanks to YouTube all three of these episodes are readily available so I’ve decided to check them out since failed wrestling promotions are pretty much this site’s bread and butter. So let’s get down to it and start at the very beginning, Episode #1 which every source I’ve found lists as having aired on January 16, 2000, though since it was a syndicated show it may have aired on other dates depending on the market.

WCW Monday Nitro (August 7, 2000)

WCWNitrologo1999

I’ve been on a bit of a WCW jag as of late for reasons that I cannot entirely comprehend and as I have no WWE Network I’ve been relying entirely on stuff posted on YouTube and things I had on an old-ass external hard drive. Today we’re taking a break from the early Nitro era stuff I’ve been looking at and head into much more awful territory. That’s right boys and girls, it’s time for an episode of WCW NITRO FROM THE YEAR 2000 BABY!

WWF King of the Ring 2000 (June 25, 2000)

Having been working through the awfulness that is WCW 2000, I decided to go and see how the other half was living and check out a WWF PPV from the same time. So why King of the Ring 2000? Because I’m also randomly watching all the Wrestling Observer’s worst matches of the year and this PPV contains the apparent worst match of 2000 which, given the shit I’ve seen on Nitros from that year, is truly an incredible feat. So let’s get on with the show!

WCW Monday Nitro (August 21, 2000)

We start things off with clips of what went down with Goldberg and Russo last week before we go live to Vince Russo’s office. Russo’s on the phone with “Scott,” imploring him to relax. Jarrett walks in and is all pissed off that Goldberg cost him the title last week. He wants Goldberg tonight. Russo says that everyone does and told him to go wait for Nash.

WCW Monday Nitro (July 31, 2000)

WCWNitrologo1999

The show begins with a ten-bell salute as a picture of Gordon Solie along with the text “Gordon Solie 1929-2000,” is displayed. I can’t believe that in WCW 2000 someone had the good sense to do something as subdued and classy as this, but that’s actually what we get here to memorialize one of the all time greats in wrestling announcing.
