WCW/NJPW Supershow I (March 21, 1991)

Today I’m going to take a look at a WCW show from 1991 I do not think I’ve ever seen before, their joint show with New Japan Pro Wrestling originating from the Egg Dome in Tokyo. Much like they would later do with the Collision in Korea show (another New Japan collaberation), WCW released a truncated version of the show for American audiences which is the version I’m watching. I might go an see if I can find the matches that were cut from this version since they apparently exist but I don’t know if I really need to see Scott Norton take on the guy that would go on to become Evad Sullivan or random early 90s New Japan guys I’ve never heard of so who knows? As for why I’ve never seen this show that’s because it’s one of the few WCW PPVs that, to my knowledge, never got added to the WWE Network. I’m assuming it’s due to some sort of New Japan related rights issues (Collision in Korea is another one that’s nowhere to be found on the Network). Anyway here we go!

WCW Clash of the Champions XXXI (August 6, 1995)

My quest to clear out my hard drive of wrestling shows I haven’t reviewed continues today with some mid-90s WCW, specifically Clash of the Champions XXXI. I know for a fact I watched this live on TBS when it happened and remember the main event and Hulk Hogan’s shenanigans that happen during this show but don’t remember much of the undercard so I guess it’ll be interesting to see what WCW was up to in the lead up to Nitro becoming a thing.

WCW Festival de Lucha (January 27, 1999)

I was a big WCW guy and this is one of those shows that I’d read about taking place on message boards back in the day but also one that unfortunately never saw the light of day. When I first got the WWE Network it was one of the first things I went looking for but at that time all they had up was a single match that saw Konnan, Rey Mysterio Jr., Hector Garza & Silver King go up against Chris Jericho, Norman Smiley, Johnny Swinger & Lenny Lane. That is no longer the case and the entire show is now available though it lacks commentary or any sort of chyrons so I’m going to attempt to review it in spite not possessing Professor Iron “Mike” Tenay levels of knowledge of lucha libre so don’t expect much more beyond “So and so did some really cool dives” levels of play by play. Let’s get down to it.

NWA World Championship Wrestling (May 11, 1985)

I’m burnt on on the Attitude Era and have already done a write-up for the episode of Raw Is War I would be scheduled to watch this week anyway so instead of checking out Sunday Night Heat or SummerSlam ’98 I’ve decided to watch some good-ass studio wrestling from the 1980s, specifically NWA World Championship Wrestling from May 11, 1985. Didn’t really pick this for any other reason than the fact that it popped up on YouTube and had a thumbnail of Abdullah the Butcher looking nuts and that’s good enough for me.

NWA World Championship Wrestling (May 17, 1986)

There’s not really any reason that I watched this particular episode of NWA World Championship Wrestling other than the fact that I went looking for a random hour long studio wrestling show on YouTube and this one came up and had a pretty funny thumbnail so I went ahead and checked it out. Don’t really know what we’ll get here besides a bunch of squash matches and dudes with scarred up foreheads screaming hot bullshit at each other which is really all anyone needs in pro-wrestling anyway so let’s get to it.

WCW Halloween Havoc 1989: Settling The Score (October 28, 1989)

So it was Halloween which means I wanted to watch some Halloween themed wrestling bullshit. Luckily for me the cheap as free tier of the award winning WWE Network has my back and has put up a bunch of old WCW Halloween Havoc PPV as this month’s freebies unfortunately they kept the one I really wanted to see, Halloween Havoc ‘91, behind the paywall so I decided to check on ‘89 inside because it’s one I don’t think I’d ever seen before so let’s get spooky!

Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling (February 20, 1982)

Time to take a trip back to the Mid-Atlantic territory for the February 20, 1982 episode of Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. We’re jumping ahead a little bit because I’d reviewed the February 6, 1982 episode as a random thing some time back and I can’t find the February 13, 1982 episode anywhere online. It also doesn’t seem to be on the WWE Network so I don’t know if a copy of it exists anywhere in the world.

Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling (January 30, 1982)

For whatever reason at this point in my life, I’ve pretty much given up the ghost on every other wrestling company and time period of wrestling save for early 80s Mid-Atlantic. So today we’re going back to 1982 for some more studio grappling. This is the January 30, 1982 episode which was recorded at the WPCQ-TV Studios in Charlotte, NC on the 27th of January.
