NJPW New Japan Cup Finals (March 23, 2014)

I’ve got a bunch of random-ass wrestling shows from years past on an external hard drive that I’ve never actually gotten around to watching so I think for the foreseeable future I’ll make my way through those shows with no rhyme or reason. Today we’re going to be taking a look at the 2014 New Japan Cup Finals. For whatever reason I’ve never really gotten into New Japan but maybe that will change with this show. Let’s find out!

WCW/NJPW Collision in Korea (August 4, 1995)

In an industry where weird occurrences are often the norm, perhaps one of the strangest events of all took place when in April of 1995, when WCW and NJPW went to North Korea to hold two days of grappling in Pyeongyang (April 28-29) headlined by Japanese wrestling legend, Antonio Inoki, taking on the dirtiest player in the game, Ric Flair. Held at the Rungrado May Day Stadium the two day event boasted a two day attendance record of 340,000 (190,000 on day two alone) a fact that WCW oddly never really played up.

In fact they never made a big deal about this this thing at all choosing to air matches pulled from both days of the event as a PPV special months after the fact. It is this August 4, 1995 PPV version of the show that I’m reviewing here today.
