WCW Clash of the Champions XXXI (August 6, 1995)

My quest to clear out my hard drive of wrestling shows I haven’t reviewed continues today with some mid-90s WCW, specifically Clash of the Champions XXXI. I know for a fact I watched this live on TBS when it happened and remember the main event and Hulk Hogan’s shenanigans that happen during this show but don’t remember much of the undercard so I guess it’ll be interesting to see what WCW was up to in the lead up to Nitro becoming a thing.

WWE Royal Rumble 2023 (January 28, 2023)

So I went and watched the Royal Rumble this past weekend on basic cable here in South Korea on a sports channel that seemingly showed nothing but WWE, billiards, and golf. What an extremely random assortment of sports. I live tweeted most of the show so this is more or less those tweets plus some other stuff that I’ve decided to go back and flesh out in more than however many characters you get with a tweet. So let’s get crackin’.

WCW Worldwide (January 5th, 1997)

WCW_Worldwide

Time for another random-ass episode of WCW Worldwide! Why am I watching a WCW C-Show from 1997 you ask? Because I reviewed a single match from it back in the day and found the entire show up on a video site of questionable legality so I’m going to give it a watch. Today we’re checking out the first episode of Worldwide from the new year (circa 1997).

WCW Worldwide (January 3, 1998)

WCW Worldwide 1997-1999 Logo

I’ve decided to go back to the WCW Worldwide well even though I’ve got a cheap as free tier of WWE Network content at my disposal. “Why in the fuck would you do that?” I hear you ask. Well, the bulk of the stuff available is two month old episodes of SmackDown, Raw, and NXT all of which would be audienceless coronavirus era shows and none of which are things I really have any desire to look at. There are some old Backlashes I’d be slightly interested in checking out but I don’t know if I’d finish any of them before this Sunday’s Backlash 2020 when they inevitably go back behind a paywall, so I’ve decided to watch some old WCW C-Shows until the new chunk of old cheap as free WWE PPVs become available.

WWE Backlash (April 27, 2003)

WWE Backlash 2003

I went digging through the cheap as free version of the WWE Network the other night to see if they had any old shit available since the bulk of what’s up is COVID Era empty arena shows from a month or two back and to be honest, it’s not doing much for. Fortunately they had for reasons unknown to me a number of seemingly arbitrary Backlash PPVs up for those of us who are cheapskates. Among those Backlashes was the 2003 edition of the show, so that’s what we’re reviewing here today.

WCW Worldwide (June 27, 1998)

One more episode of WCW Worldwide from June of 1998 to go, so let’s lock in and see what sort of completely arbitrary matches are on the docket for the June 27, 1998 episode of WCW Worldwide. Our announcers this week are once again Tony Schiavone and “The Living Legend” Larry Zbyszko. There’s not much in the way of fanfare as we head immediately to the ring for our opening contest.

WCW Monday Nitro – Night of Champions (March 26, 2001)

WCWNitrologo1999

In my possession I have an external hard drive with a lot of random-ass wrestling shows on it. It’s mostly stuff that I had on VHS and converted to digital some years back. Some of it’s kind of obscure stuff: random 90s Japanese death match tapes, tapes from my local indie federation, etc. but the bulk of it I could probably delete at this point since the WWE Network has them all in higher definition. Today we’re looking at something from the latter rather than the former. Today we’re going to take a look at the March 26, 2001 episode of WCW Monday Nitro.

WCW Monday Nitro (August 7, 2000)

WCWNitrologo1999

I’ve been on a bit of a WCW jag as of late for reasons that I cannot entirely comprehend and as I have no WWE Network I’ve been relying entirely on stuff posted on YouTube and things I had on an old-ass external hard drive. Today we’re taking a break from the early Nitro era stuff I’ve been looking at and head into much more awful territory. That’s right boys and girls, it’s time for an episode of WCW NITRO FROM THE YEAR 2000 BABY!

WCW Pro (October 7, 1995)

WCW-Pro-1995

After a brief, “Maybe WWE is going to be good again…nope, I guess not,” period, I’ve realized that all I really want is WCW or WCW 2.0 type shit. Since AEW doesn’t have a bajillion hours of programming yet, and that Billy Corgan studio show NWA doesn’t start airing for a few days/weeks yet, I’ve decided to go watch another random-ass WCW C-Show from 1995, specifically the October 7, 1995 episode of WCW Pro.
