NWA:TNA Weekly PPV #53 (July 16, 2003)

I continue to haphazardly make my way through IMPACT Wrestling’s 20 year history with another one of their weekly PPVs, specifically the July 16, 2003 show from the Asylum in Nashville, Tennessee. Don’t know anything about it save for the fact that it’s about a month after the one year anniversary show I watched a few weeks back.

I think I’m going to go all in on TNA/IMPACT Wrestling being the only wrestling promotion I watch for the foreseeable future. I don’t have any grand designs about watching every episode in chronological order or anything like that. I’m just going to watch whatever shows I have available to me on YouTube or that external hard drive of wrestling shows of questionable legality I got. So let’s get down to it.

USWA Championship Wrestling (August 4, 1990)

Since I’ve run out of WWF content for the month of July 1998 I need something else to look at and have decided on some Memphis studio shit because it’s very much my jam. Also it’s only like an hour long and mostly squash matches so I can do a half-assed job reviewing it and it won’t make much of a difference. Anyway, today we’re going to take a gander at the August 4, 1990 episode of USWA Championship Wrestling.

The episode before this one was kind of a slog to get through but it was a pre-recorded episode and this one is live…or at least was when it aired 23 years ago so hopefully it’s a bit better than that one was. I don’t know if I could deal with two consecutive weeks of largely mediocre grappling and wheel spinning. So let’s get down to business and see what this week has in store for me.

My journey through WWF’s 1998 programming continues with the June 8, 1998 installment of Raw Is War. We’re very nearly halfway through the year and to borrow a turn of phrase from Good Ol’ JR, “business is about to pick up.” Last week planted the seeds for THAT Mankind vs. Undertaker Hell in a Cell match and also set up Kane as the number one contender for Stone Cold’s title. Also Al Snow dressed up as every racist Asian stereotype at once. Truly we are smackdab in the middle of the Attitude Era folks! So let’s strap ourselves in and get ready for another installment of Raw Is War!

It’s time for another trip back to the year 1998 to see what was happening in the WWF 23 years ago this week. Outside of the DX stuff which I never really liked but is honestly a lot dumber than I recalled it being the recent shows have been a ton of fun. Let’s see if that trend continues or if we’re going to get two hours of Triple H comparing his dick to tricycles or a pineapple or a forklift or some other equally perplexing item.

It’s back to the grind with another trip to 1998 with the WWF. This is the April 27, 1998 episode of Raw Is War. The night before was Unforgiven, which I didn’t watch so let’s see what sort of massive seachanges there were coming out of that event as we get down to business.
