NWA Into the Fire (December 14, 2019)

I think this year I’m going to just work on clearing out the random hard drive of assorted wrestling crap I’ve accumulated over the years but never actually watched. I don’t plan on watching too much new stuff or using YouTube for wrestling crap. If I feel like watching wrestling I’m going to have to find something on that there hard drive to watch. Today I’m kicking things off with NWA Into the Fire from back in 2019.

When NWA first came back I was honestly pretty high on it. I dug that there was a wrestling promotion that was going for the studio wrestling vibe and focused more on promos than in-ring acumen. I loved the weird, at times almost Adult Swim-esque nature of some of the stuff that happened and I even was into the roster but then COVID happened and they lost a lot of momentum and then most of the folks I liked in the NWA got signed to AEW or IMPACT. They eventually came back but Billy Corgan got up his own ass about stuff and now a barely mobile Brodus Clay is the NWA World Heavyweight Champion for no goddamn reason and Nick Aldis is a free agent. But that’s now. This show…this show is their first PPV from when I still thought they were pretty good so let’s check it out.

NWA Super Powerrr (May 12, 2020)

NWA-Super-Powerrr

So prior to the coronavirus popping off in the United States, the NWA was on the road to the Crockett Cup with a big Clash of the Champions style show known as Super Powerrr scheduled to serve as the go home show ahead of the PPV. When the PPV was delayed due to bans on mass gatherings, so too was the airing of Super Powerrr. When it became clear that life would not be returning to normal anytime soon, Billy Corgan and the powers that be at the NWA decided to just say fuck it and recut Super Powerrr to be released as a stand alone deal. This is a review of that show.

NWA The Circle Squared (March 10, 2020)

Once again NWA Powerrr is preempted tonight, so that the NWA can bring us this special presentation of NWA The Circle Squared. As they explained repeatedly back in episode one, this program gives wrestlers across the globe a chance to showcase their talents at the interview podium and in the ring for a chance to earn themselves NWA contracts. This week we actually get two episodes though they are a single video on YouTube that only runs 45 minutes so I’m just going to count it as a single event for the sake of simplicity.

NWA The Circle Squared (February 18, 2020)

This week Powerrr has been preempted so that NWA can bring us this special presentation of The Circle Squared. “What’s The Circle Squared?” you ask. I guess it’s something of a competition show where wrestlers have a chance to wrestle and cut promos in front of the GPB Studio audience in hopes of earning themselves an NWA contract which I guess makes it a bit like game show era NXT.

NWA Powerrr (February 11, 2020)

I’m finally all caught up with NWA…or at least all caught up with NWA since Powerrr became a thing. It’s not like I’ve suddenly seen every NWA Chicago card from the 1950s or anything. So here are some more words about an episode of NWA Powerrr that I missed due to being busy with real life bullshit. So let’s get down to business!
