All In (September 1, 2018)

Over the past month or so AEW’s had me more amped up and excited about professional wrestling than I’ve been probably since shortly after WCW closed up shop back in 2001. Between the big signings, the air of predictability that comes from working with pretty much every major wrestling company around the globe save for WWE in addition to a mess of indies, and the fact that they’re going to pretty much turn Dark into WCW Worldwide and start filming in Universal Studios Florida I am hyped beyond belief about AEW so this weekend I decided to go back and watch the show that directly lead to AEW’s creation: All In.

I guess the story behind this goes that Big Dave Meltzer commented that Ring of Honor would never be able to sell out a 10,000 seat arena so Cody Rhodes took that as a challenge and along with the Young Bucks put together a show that took place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on September 1, 2018. Tickets apparently sold on in 30 minutes. Anyway here are words about that show.

WWE Mixed Match Challenge (October 2, 2018)

WWE Mixed Match Challenge Logo

I’ve got some time off and have decided to randomly watch the rest of the second season of WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge for reasons that are entirely known to me. Basically at present, I like wrestling shows that are 45 minutes long and feature goofy nonsense more than “workrate,” and Mixed Match Challenge ticks all those boxes so let’s check out the October 2, 2018 episode!

OWE Phase 1 (December 5, 2018)

OWE

Awhile back as part of all the AEW hoopla they announced working relationships with a couple of overseas promotions, one of which was Oriental Wrestling Entertainment. I’d never heard of them before and did some Googling to find out more and what my initial searches turned up piqued my interest. An article on Voices of Wrestling quotes former WWE Cruiserweight Classic competitor, Ho Ho Lun, as saying, “OWE is putting wrestling into Kung Fu.” As someone who spent the bulk of his youth watching Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest movies a wrestling promotion that marries kung fu and pro-wrestling together is very good to me, and so I decided to check them out.

Time for another installment of the only main roster show I watch regularly: MIXED MATCH CHALLENGE! This is the September 25, 2018 installment which I missed because I moved and was redoing the interior of my new place and was staying somewhere with shitty internet for about a month. WWE Mixed Match Challenge (September 18, 2018)

My favorite main roster related wrestling show is back for a second season kids. I’m talking, of course, about Mixed Match Challenge. They mixed things up a bit this season and instead of a single elimination tournament it’s a round robin so we’ll get more chances to see each team in action.
