WCW Monday Nitro (July 10, 2000)

WCWNitrologo1999

I somehow skipped this episode of Nitro while playing along at home with the Keep it 2000 podcast and since they’ve closed up shop for the foreseeable future I figured I might as well fill in this gap in my own reviews.

WCW Monday Nitro (August 21, 2000)

WCWNitrologo1999

We start things off with clips of what went down with Goldberg and Russo last week before we go live to Vince Russo’s office. Russo’s on the phone with “Scott,” imploring him to relax. Jarrett walks in and is all pissed off that Goldberg cost him the title last week. He wants Goldberg tonight. Russo says that everyone does and told him to go wait for Nash.

WCW Monday Nitro (July 31, 2000)

WCWNitrologo1999

The show begins with a ten-bell salute as a picture of Gordon Solie along with the text “Gordon Solie 1929-2000,” is displayed. I can’t believe that in WCW 2000 someone had the good sense to do something as subdued and classy as this, but that’s actually what we get here to memorialize one of the all time greats in wrestling announcing.

WCW Monday Nitro (July 3, 2000)

Welcome everyone to another installment of WCW Monday Nitro from the year 2000. We start things off with a recap of what happened last week in WCW. I actually watched last week’s Nitro but still found this rapidfire recap to be so overstuffed with shit that I was confused about what I was looking at (I don’t think it helped that they had Thunder stuff as well).

I’m not against this recap thing in theory since any particular episode of Nitro could be someone’s first wrestling show, but in order to make it a more effective thing, maybe cut some of the less important stuff from the opening recap package, but I digress…

WCW Monday Nitro (June 26, 2000)

So this past week I discovered an excellent podcast titled Keep It 2000 and binge-listened to all 25 episodes that currently exist. The show reviews episodes of WCW Monday Nitro from the year 2000 and is so utterly hilarious that I decided to start playing along at home and jump on with the episode they will cover in the next installment of their podcast. This is that episode.

Shawn Stasiak vs. Kurt Angle (WWF Survivor Series November 14, 1999)

For people who think that fans chanting random bullshit during matches is a modern problem in wrestling, go back and watch Kurt Angle’s debut. In the opening moments we get a “boring” chant as Angle does actual wrestling. From there they decide to go with a “Let’s go Red Wings!” chant. They would return to this chant several times during the match. At one point Angle gets out of the ring and gets on the mic to yell at them for having the audacity to boo an Olympic champion.

Outside of the crowd it’s a pretty fine bout of grappling though there are a couple weird things in it. First it’s so weird to hear Kurt Angle’s theme song without people chanting, “YOU SUCK!” during it and second Angle won with the Angle Slam, but Stasiak just leaped up like 2 seconds after being pinned.

WWF Invasion (July 22, 2001)

Invasion

It’s time for the Invasion. I somehow missed out on this when it happened and haven’t seen it since, but I know its reputation. Everyone does. Does the Invasion deserve the amount of shit that’s been heaped upon it? Let’s find out!

Franklin Delano Roosevelt kicks things off for us, talking about war as clips of WCW and ECW dudes invading WWF are shown. This is really a weird way to kick off a PPV. Fireworks happen. JR welcomes to the Gund Arena as we get down to the ring for action.
