We’re at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, LA for NXT TakeOver. The show begins with a shot of the crowd. A bunch of people have glowsticks for some reason. As has become the norm for TakeOvers we begin with a band (this times Cane Hill) playing live while a video hyping the show plays them. I think this is a pretty cool way to intro the show and is a better use of music than the random mid-show musical performance that will happen at Mania.

We start things off this week with a brief video package about Dusty Rhodes and the previous Dusty Tag Team Classic events before going to the NXT Command Center where Charly Caruso is standing by. She hypes tonight’s Dusty Classic finals and confirms that Bobby Fish is injured and will be out of action this Saturday. The winners tonight will face Undisputed Era in New Orleans for the NXT Tag Team Titles.

After the opening credits we head to Full Sail where Mauro gives us a run down of the matches we’ll see tonight. In addition Drew McIntyre and Andrade “Cien” Almas will sign a contract to make their championship match at TakeOver: Houston. Prepare to see a table get flipped over!

Time for a wrestling show! Time for NXT TakeOver! We kick things off with a band called Code Orange rocking out live while some sort of video package for TakeOver plays. Code Orange is pretty good and I’ll probably check them out at some point in the future.
It’s a fine way to open the show since it’s different and doesn’t really fuck with the flow of the show the way musical performances in the middle of wrestling shows generally do.

We start things off with highlights of Ciampa turning on Gargano at TakeOver Chicago as well as Ciampa’s promo afterwards. I had forgotten how angry I was at Ciampa, but this video package did the trick and my hatred came rushing back. Johnny Gargano will be here tonight!
We also see footage from last week of sad Roderick Strong hugging his mom and his fiancee after his loss to Bobby Roode in his championship match.
No opening theme song video this week since we go right to Full Sail for action!

After a hype package for tonight’s main event battle between Roderick Strong and Bobby Roode and the opening credits we see footage of Roderick Strong and his family arriving at Full Sail University earlier today. We then head down to the ring for tag team action.

After some hype for tonight’s main event and the opening video package we get Nigel McGuinness introducing us to the latest addition to the NXT commentary team: Mauro Ranallo. AW YE YE! Mauro shows up and says he’s glad to be here in NXT. I’m glad for him to be here too since he’s legit one of the best announcers. They then head down to ring for the first bout of the night…

The show begins with a video hyping the matches between No Way Jose and Killian Dain and Hideo Itami and Oney Lorcan. We get the opening credit with their new theme song and then its on to Full Sail where the crowd is already chanting “NXT! NXT!” and then it’s on to the ring for the first match of the night.

NXT has some new theme music this week. It’s pretty generic core of some sort. It kind of reminds me of the old Raw is War theme song. Anyway we’re back in Orlando after spending some time out in Chicago for TakeOver and a more or less disposable episode of NXT last week that saw the debut of The Velveteen Dream and little else. Let’s get down to the ring for action talking!

Match 1: Killian Dain (w/ Eric Young) vs. Danny Burch
Danny Burch tries to fight Killian Dain at the bell, unloading with some strikes and kicks that Dain more or less shrugs off before he beats Burch down. He hits a slam and a running senton that lay out Burch.
The crowd starts chanting “SHAVE YOUR BACK!” at Dain. Audience participation I can appreciate. Dain does not shave his back, but instead hits some elbow drops.
